I've been a CFI since 1977 and until I retired from instructing in 2024 I had always renewed my CFI certificate by recency of experience (exclusively AMEL, IFR-AMEL and ATP instruction given, about 34,000 hours). The information I gained from this course in the subject areas of aeronautical decision making and risk managment covered subjects that were not tought in the 1970s. I had picked up on certain aspects and acronyms of risk managent and ADM in various aviation publications, but had never before been formally introduced to those subjects. It was very informative.
