What You Should Know

  • How can I get a head start on my flight training?
The more you learn on the ground before you begin your flight training, the more quickly you'll be able to pick up the skills you need in the cockpit. Our ground school courses are a great place to get started.
  • Which pilot's license is right for me?
Earning your private pilot's license offers you the most flexibility and room to grow. However, a sport pilot license can be earned in as little as 20 hours, and can be a great introduction to flying for pleasure.
  • Is flying a safe hobby?
Statistically speaking, flying an airplane is no more dangerous than riding a motorcycle. Pilots can minimize risks by learning proper technique, communicating well, and learning good flying safety habits.
  • How difficult is it to learn to fly?
Learning to fly takes some practice, but almost anyone who can drive a car can learn to be a safe, competent pilot. The key is a good attitude and a desire to learn.
  • What kinds of products do I need to buy?
In the beginning of your flight training, your instructor will supply most of what you need. As you progress, though, you'll probably want to invest in a good headset, sunglasses, a logbook, and your own ground school learning materials.
  • Are there age limitations for new pilots?
Anyone age 16 or older can apply for a student pilot certificate, provided they meet the medical requirements to become a pilot. There is no upper age limit.
  • How much does it cost to learn to fly?
The costs associated with getting a pilot's license will vary for each person depending on their location, type of aircraft they are learning, and their individual talent level. However, it isn't unusual to spend between $8,000 and $15,000 fulfilling the requirements for a pilot's license.
  • How do I find a qualified flight instructor?
There are a number of certified Cessna Flight Training Centers around the country. You can also seek advice from other pilots in your area and read reviews of flight schools and flight instructors online.
